After seeing this tribute to the band, I´ve decided to launch a fan tribute myself. It´s a project called Born to be a Runaways Fan.

The idea is that we - the Runaways fans - do something in order to celebrate the band. And it can be done in many ways. You can post something about them on your Facebook Profile or your blog; you can comment on a song lyrics; you can post a photo; you can post a video on Youtube; you can record yourself singing something; you can dance; you can tell your story about the first time you listened to the band; you can talk about how much your friends just don´t understand why you´re so fucking in love with the band; you can do whatever you want to express you´re a Runaways fan. All you have to do is use the banner and spread the news to Runaways fans. Feel free!

Depois de ver esse tributo à banda, decidi começar um tributo feito pelos fãs. É o projeto  Born to be a Runaways Fan. A idéia é que nós, fãs de Runaways, façamos algo para celebrar a banda. E isso pode ser feito de muitas formas. Você pode postar alguma coisa no seu Facebook ou no seu blog, comentar a letra de alguma música; postar um vídeo no Youtube, gravar uma música, dançar, contar a história da primeira vez que ouviu a banda, falar o quanto seus amigos simplesmente não entendem porque idabos você gosta tanto disso. Enfim, você pode fazer qualquer coisa para expressar que você é fã de Runaways. Tudo que é preciso fazer é usar o banner acima e espalhar a idéia por aí. Feel free! Let´s rock!

    The explosive Runaways rape story: Will Joan Jett speak up for her bandmates now?

    A new account charges the band’s late manager with numerous sexual assaults, and Jett refuses to comment

    Sometimes revelations of beastly behavior arrive as a shock. Other times they feel almost sadly inevitable. That’s the way the new story about the Runways reads to people who’ve long been aware of the rumors swirling around the band and the punk-era L.A. scene from which they emerged.

    In the Bill Cosby narrative, a moralistic father figure is accused of sexually assaulting women over several decades. The Runaways story, just up on the Huffington Post’s long-form Highline section, accuses a divisive figure long known as a predator but also admired for his outlandish stories and weird charm: Jason Cherkis’s lengthy and solidly reported “The Lost Girls” charges Kim Fowley, the longtime music-business Zelig who managed the all-female band The Runaways, with raping bassist Jackie Fuchs (who performed as Jackie Fox) as well as assaulting several underage girls who hung around them, including songwriter Kari Krome.

    The most famous and influential member of the band – Joan Jett – has not yet commented in public about the validity of the charges, but she should, since the article asserts that Jett and other band members watched Fowley rape Fuchs.

    The fact that Fowley, who had been active in the L.A. music scene since about 1960, never painted himself as a saint, and flaunted his amoralism and sexual appetite, doesn’t make the story Cherkis reported any less disturbing:

    As he would admit to anyone, Fowley was mostly after teenage girls, or, in his words, “young cunt” or “dirty pussy.” In the June 1975 issue of Back Door Man, an influential L.A. ’zine, he spelled out his desires in a personal ad that included a cheesy photo of him in a white sport coat and white pants. It began, “If you are eighteen and like it or if you are under 18 and legally emancipated (with paper work) then you may have just stumbled upon the opportunity of a lifetime.”

    Fowley’s unconventional appetite was no secret. In the definitive book about rock music in Los Angeles, Barney Hoskyns’s “Waiting For the Sun,” Fowley seems to show up in nearly every chapter, often with a clever line or anecdote. “The groupies were usually girls who did not have fathers, lived in disenfranchised homes, and had mothers who worked,” Fowley says of the scene around Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco, the ‘70s Hollywood club frequented by future members of the Runaways. “Of course, anyone who had Bowie-esque qualities automatically got lucky.”

    Apparently things often went further than just “getting lucky,” as the graphic descriptions in the story show, though Fowley had long denied any sexual contact with the members of the band. “They can talk about it until the cows come home but, in my mind, I didn’t make love to anybody in the Runaways nor did they make love to me,” Fowley said in “Queens of Noise,” Evelyn McDonnell’s 2013 book on the band.

    We’re used to hearing extreme and contradictory things about Fowley. “I asked him why half the people I had interviewed praised him, and the other half despised him,” McDonnell wrote in a Flavorwire piece after his death in January of bladder cancer. “’I’m an empty canvas and anyone can paint the picture of their choice,’ he told me. ‘I’m really bad at intimacy and personal relationships.’”

      Sempre teve uma coisa errada com Kim Fowley. Nunca gostei daquele jeito manipulador bizarro dele. Mas confesso que agora estou chocada. É uma pena que ele já esteja morto e não possa mais sofrer as consequências do que fez.

    Quando Cherie Currie inventou aquela estória sobre o estupro de uma groupie sem dizer o nome dela, na verdade ela estava contando o caso real da própria colega de banda. Foi a maneira de denunciar o ex-manager como estuprador sem revelar a verdadeira vítima.

    ESTE é o segredo horrível da história das Runaways que foi escondido por todas elas e nunca tinha sido contado nem mesmo no documentário Edgeplay.

    As Runaways são a banda de Rock & Roll perfeita. Jackie Fox é a pessoa mais humana e ao mesmo tempo mais próxima da perfeição. Ela nunca teve o ego de uma estrela, embora fosse uma rock star. Tanto que após 2 anos de carreira musical, ela largou tudo e foi á Unversidade para estudar Direito e se tornou advogada de artistas. Por isso mesmo, também é a única celebridade com quem eu fiz contato, mesmo indireto, trocando conceitos. Ela mesma adorou essa contradição em termos, usando a lógica infalível, e brincou comigo:

    “Not sure that human and Goddess quite go together, but thank you very much!…. Have a great weekend,…”

    Era a única integrante da banda que nunca se drogou e nem fumava.
    O que a faz mais normal a torna mais vulnerável.

    Então, quando eu li essa notícia hoje de madrugada, me deu vontade de vomitar:

    JACKIE FOX, BAIXISTA DAS RUNAWAYS, FOI ESTUPRADA PELO EMPRESÁRIO DA BANDA AOS 16 ANOS

    Jacqueline Louise Füchs, baixista da banda The Runaways de 1975 a 1977, que usa o nome artístico Jackie Fox, afirma que foi estuprada pelo antigo empresário e produtor da banda, Kim Fowley (morto em 2015) no último dia de 1975. Segundo depoimento ao Huffington Post, ela foi drogada e atacada durante a festa de fim de ano. Füchs tinha 16 anos na época. Ela conta que a guitarrista Joan Jett e a vocalista Cherie Currie testemunharam o crime do então manager.

    Várias pessoas testemunharam. Ninguém interferiu.

    Uma compositora letrista das Runaways, Kari Krome, que tinha apenas 14 anos na época, corroborou a história de Fuchs e afirmou que também foi agredida sexualmente por Fowley. Ela também era uma adolescente na época.

    Ao Huffington Post, um representante de Jett nega que a guitarrista tenha presenciado o crime. Outra testemunha presente, Brent Williams, afirmou à reportagem que Jett o pediu que nunca comentasse o caso com advogados.

    Currie afirma que se manifestou contra o ataque no momento e deixou o local. A vocalista contou ao Post que o estupro nunca foi discutido pela banda.

    No entanto, a também baixista e cineasta documentarista Victory Tischler-Blue, conhecida como Vicky Blue, que substituiu Füchs na banda, afirmou que o crime era sempre lembrado pelas colegas. “Eu ouvia direto a respeito. Elas falavam de como Kim transou com a Jackie como um cachorro. Era uma espécie de piada interna.”

      Mas dá pra entender Cherie???? Antes ela queria denunciar, mas agora ela fica do lado de Joan e nega tudo? Gente, essa mulher é completamente louca! Isso porque a própria Cherie já foi estuprada e sofreu as consequências sérias disso. Como ela pode fazer isso com Jackie?
